Keswick nursing home to bury time capsule as Covid wears off

A nursing home in Keswick is going to bury a time capsule next week.

Millfield Residential Home on Penrith Street will host the event on July 21st.

This is being done to mark the end of the easing of coronavirus restrictions in England and for the pleasure of residents.

Liza Donoghue, a nurse at Millfield, said, “We’re burying the time capsule in the nursing home gardens.”

The time capsule contains photos of staff and residents as well as some small artistic works.

Since it will be buried at the time of the coronavirus, there will also be face masks and other PPE equipment.

As did toilet paper because of the panic buying that emerged at the start of the pandemic.

For the past eighteen months, the staff have done their best to keep the Millfield staff entertained.

To the delight of the residents, local companies have offered to get involved in food and refreshments.

The Kingfisher serves fish and chips and Luchiano’s will be there to deliver ice cream.

A singer will also perform and there will be an open bar.

Miss Donoghue said, “Keswick Stone Craft is currently designing a piece for us so that people will know where the time capsule is for years to come.”

No date has been set for when it will be excavated, but it could take many years.

Planning for the event has been going on for a few months, and it was supposed to take place in June, but has been affected by the pandemic.

Miss Donoghue said, “The residents think it’s a great idea as they can have fun and see their families.”

“It’s a time for them to celebrate the easing of restrictions.”

Although some family members have visited, this is the first time they have been able to see loved ones.
