Bury star James Guy has confirmed his place at the Tokyo Olympics

BURY swimming star James Guy has confirmed his place at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The two-time Rio 2016 silver medalist is one of 24 names to join the roster, joining those whose spots were confirmed earlier in the year.

The 25-year-old Guy from Bath was part of the 4 × 200 m freestyle and 4 × 100 m medley relay teams that finished second in Brazil.

While the British swimmers picked up a total of six medals five years ago, Team GB Chef Mark GB is optimistic about improving this course in Japan.

“The team has a mix of Olympic medalists from Rio, they obviously have Olympic champions. It has members of the team who are having some of the fastest times in the world in 2021, ”he said.

“I would be pretty confident that we will select the strongest swimming team that Team GB has ever represented at the Olympics. We’re going to see some special, special moments in the pool in Tokyo.

“What we take with us to the games is a very, very, very competitive team. Rio has been superb, but this group of athletes has the potential to produce fantastic medal returns. ”
