A man attacked his wife in their home over an argument about a holiday.
Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard police were called to Doverhouse Close in Whitefield in October last year.
They found a woman in an injured state lying under a blanket.
It later emerged Ishan Mehrobi, who lived there, had got into an argument with the woman, his wife, who did not want him to go on holiday alone.
In response Mehrobi pushed and shoved her.
The woman later fell down the stairs and was found in an injured state.
Mehrobi left the scene and was picked up at Heathrow Airport the following day.
He had planned to travel to Uzbekistan through Ukraine to help his mother get away from Afghanistan due to the upheavals taking place in the country at the time.
Ellen Shaw, prosecuting, said he had a previous conviction for assault by beating the same woman.
She also said on this occasion it was accepted he did not cause the injuries police found her with as they were caused by her falling down the stairs.
Mehrobi, aged 43, appeared in court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to battery.
Ben Kaufman, defending, said he had come to the UK from Afghanistan flying the Taliban in 2002.
He said: “He has been in the country for 19 years.
“He has always worked, he has contributed to society in a positive way by paying his taxes and supporting his family.”
He said that Mehrobi and his wife “do not wish to reconcile” their marriage.
Recorder Edmund Fowler said: “I do consider there was significant distress cause by your actions on that day.
“There has been limited remorse for your actions in my view.
“In mitigation I accept you suffer from bipolar and depression, your business has struggled during the pandemic.”
He imposed a community order to last for 18 months with the requirement that he take part in the Building Better Relationships Program and attend at 25 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement Days.
He also imposed a restraining order indefinitely which bans Mehrobi from attending at his partner’s home.
