Boris Johnson is accused of trying to bury “bad news” with a “secret” wedding to Carrie Symonds

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been accused of trying to “bury this week’s bad news” by highlighting his “secret” wedding to Carrie Symonds.

The Prime Minister and Ms. Symonds tied the knot in a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday, with only a handful of church officials knowing of the affair, confirmed No. 10 on Sunday.

While the wedding may come as a surprise to many, The Sun reported that it was already planned six months ago.

While Labor leader Keir Starmer extended warm wishes to the newlyweds and said he wished them “a happy life together”, other members of his party did not welcome the news so much.

Former frontbencher Jon Trickett targeted the wedding news, suggesting it was a ploy to “bury this week’s bad news” after Dominic Cummings made an explosive testimony this week about the government’s Covid response and findings that the Prime Minister acted “unwise” by failing to ask who had funded the renovation of his Downing Street apartment.

Shadow Justice Secretary Karl Turner said weddings were intended as “happy events” but instead people asked “who paid” because they suspected the Prime Minister was up to “some sort of fiddle”.

Meanwhile, Labor MP Barry Sheerman took a stab in Mr Johnson’s past relationship history and tweeted, “Where did the Prime Minister’s previous marriages take place, should there be blue plaques?”

He later tweeted, “Sorry, no malice and hatred, just a sense of humor from a Christian who takes marriage vows seriously.”

Saturday’s ceremony marks Mr Johnson’s third marriage, with the Prime Minister finalizing his divorce from second wife Marina Wheeler in 2020.

He and Ms. Symonds were engaged to be engaged in 2019 before the divorce was finalized, and their song Wilfred was born in April 2020 during Covid-19’s first lockdown.

While some Labor members were critical of the wedding, the Prime Minister received congratulations from leaders and members across all parties.

In a tweet, Northern Ireland’s First Minister Arlene Foster congratulated Boris Johnson & Carrie Symonds on their wedding.
