Billionaire brothers whose business started in Bury grab the Leon fast food chain

The billionaire brothers, who started their business with a garage forecourt in Bury and now own the supermarket giant Asda, bought the fast food chain Leon for up to £ 100 million.

Mohsin and Zuber Issa, who own the giant gasoline forecourt business EG Group, have agreed to buy the company co-founded by Boris Johnson’s food tsar Henry Dimbleby.

Leon’s UK locations are primarily based in London, but there are also branches in cities such as Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester, as well as overseas locations in the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and Gran Canaria.

Leon’s directors said it enjoyed a “solid trade” prior to the pandemic. However, restaurants – mainly in city centers and transport hubs – have been hit hard by the plunge in commuter numbers, and 11 locations in the UK are closed.
